Driftwood Effect Wooden Signs

These are very unusual signs and really do show the grain of the wood. The letters are slightly proud. The background is either sandblasted or reverse-lasered to create a driftwood effect.  We use the following timbers - Iroko, Red Cedar, Oak or Sapele (similar to mahogany)   Oak has the most pronounced driftwood grain effect but the least depth to the letters.

This lovely timber, often difficult to obtain,  reddens when exposed to sunlight, and the colour improves with age. It has a fine, straight, close grain which resists warping and shrinking. As with most timber, it needs to be well maintained. We treat as standard with a long-life satin varnish

Cedar has a high tannin content producing excellent weathering characteristic. The timber also has a very short grain resulting in minimal checking and warping. Extremely durable for many years of use. It is also used for wooden signs with raised lettering where the background is sand blasted away. The timber can be oiled for a rich finish or left untreated to weather to a beautiful silver grey colour. This is a good option if you want a wooden sign without having to look after it!

Wooden ladder signs are ideal for use as entrance signs, especially when listing more than one property, such as where several houses share a drive or at the entrance of a business park. s standard they can have one, two, three or even four signs in various sizes.

We offer a variety of choices in timber, sizes, and the number of signs on the posts. These signs can be painted in tough commercial two-pack paint, treated with high gloss coach enamel, satin varnished, or oiled. As always, other variations can be quoted for.

Hockey Stick Verge Signs

A simple but effective house sign can be buried into the grass verge at your property entrance. These are normally made from very long-lasting painted tricoya board, which is 18mm thick and cut into the shape of a hockey stick. 
Alternatively, verge signs can be made from strips of oak that our carpenters bend and laminate together. The text is then sand-carved and painted.

We use five timbers for the large signs—oak, Iroko, Sapele, Red Cedar, and Douglas Fir—each with particular advantages and disadvantages. All timbers are at least 30mm thick but can be as much as 47mm. We can make boards up to almost any size. The large oak signs are the most popular choice, but the other timbers should be considered.

Wooden Posts for Signs

We offer a wide range of wooden posts, including oak, painted hardwood, iroko, and softwood. Each type of timber has its advantages: oak is the strongest, iroko requires minimal maintenance, and softwood is the most affordable. These timbers are available in any height and standard sizes of 58 x 58mm, 70 x 70mm, and 95 x 95mm, with other sizes available upon request.

Oak Finger Posts

Finger Posts

There are various options with the finger posts. Wooden finger posts can be made from natural oak or iroko with 70mm or 95mm posts. The large posts can be octagonal or square. Oak is normally treated with a commercial long life satin varnish, Iroko wood with Devon oil.

There is also a range of painted wooden finger posts. You can have one finger or up to seven fingers on a post. Aluminium finger posts are also available.

These entrance signs can be made with oak, iroko, sapele, or softwood and are ideal for hanging wooden, framed or metal signs. They are available in natural wood, oiled, varnished, or painted in a many colours. The posts are usually 8 or 9 feet high, and the arm is made to suit the sign.

Douglas Fir Wooden Sign

Large Douglas Fir Signs & Douglas Fir Memorial Plaques

Douglas Fir is reddish brown to yellow/orange in colour with a straight grain and is characterized by exceptional strength, hardness, and durability. It is very tough and water resistant, making it useful in exposed situations where maintenance is difficult. The grain is coarser than oak, and hairline cracks tend to be a timber feature. The coarser grain can occasionally cause a slight paint bleed along the grain. However, this is only noticeable up close, so it doesn't affect the appearance of larger signage. For smaller memorial plaques, we suggest leaving the lettering lasered and unpainted.

The basic price is just £136 including VAT for a black semi-rigid wheel cover with cut vinyl lettering of your choice applied in one colour. Images / logos can be used. We can print onto good-quality vinyl, which is applied to the wheelcover. These will last several years but are not as long-lasting as cut vinyl wheel covers. However, you can use full-colour photographs or complex designs with artwork and text. They are all laminated to increase their lifespan by up to two years.

Also available are printed soft wheel and tyre covers, which we make to any size. These are ideal for extra-large spare wheels, trailers, horse boxes, and motorhomes.

Printed & Wrapped Spare Wheelcovers

These wheel covers look fantastic. We print the image or artwork onto a special vinyl which, with the help of heat, wraps the whole disk including the outer curve. The result is amazing and well worth the extra money.

On this type of vinyl we laminate the surface as standard, so there are no extra lamination costs. The lamination helps protect the surface against scratching and fading.
