Slate Memorials

Slate is an excellent choice for memorials due to its natural beauty and durability. We have slate from 12 mm to 75 mm thick, which can be cut to any size. The lettering is engraved into the slate and then painted in various colours. You can choose your font and images can be included. Holes can be drilled for mounting the slate memorial onto a posts or wall. 

Granite Memorials

We offer granite memorials and memorial tablets in ten different colours and four thicknesses: 10 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm, and 30 mm. Standard sizes are available at great value, but we can also custom-make them to any size you require. Granite is an ideal material for long-lasting, low-maintenance memorials. Photos and images can be included.

Stone-like Corian Memorial Plaques

Our stone-like corian memorial plaques are a great way to pay a personal tribute to a loved one you have lost. Corian is a modern material with a stone-like finish, so if you are looking for a durable, fade-proof, and virtually maintenance-free memorial, then a stone-like corian plaque may be the perfect choice for you.

Our memorial plaques can be crafted in a variety of colours, and the design can be engraved (even with smaller detailing). We can cut Corian into unusual shapes and a range of sizes. Additionally, if required, Corian memorials can be finished with a full-colour inlay made from tough anodised aluminium.

Stone-Like Corian Crosses

Stone-like Corian is a wonderful material. Unique in many ways despite it's similarities to Stone, many choose Corian for its vibrant colours and stand-out appearance. Others choose Corian based on the fact that though it is more expensive, it is longer lasting than many other materials. Its main advantage over stone is that the text can be much smaller, and detailed images can be included.

Corian also requires little to no maintenance throughout its life, which is a definite perk if you're looking for a straight forward memorial. You can purchase Stone-Like Corian Crosses (both standard and Celtic crosses) in four different colours.

The memorial crosses are used as grave markers or permanent memorials.

Heart Shaped Memorials

Heart shaped memorials and memorial plaques can be made in black or grey granite, cast bronze and aluminium, oak or iroko wood and corian in any one of the stone colours.

There are a number of standard sizes and the corian or wood can be cut to any size.

Wood or metal stakes are also available.

War Memorials

We can make a war memorial in any of the materials we use. The cast bronze is superb, very long lasting but the most expensive. For smaller plaques, the hand paint zinc with raised letters is somewhat similar, again very long-lasting and very effective. Brass plaques are still very popular, with the 3 mm option being the most appropriate. Engraved stone-like corian is more often used than stone itself as we can engrave with more detail than is possible with real stone. New to the scene of war memorials are the engraved wooden tablets. The plaque in the image was made from Cast Polyurethane.

Wooden Ashes Caskets - With or Without Memorial Plaque

Our wooden caskets and urns have been designed for cremated ashes. They are beautifully made from solid oak or mahogany and can be supplied with or without a memorial plaque.  These can be brass, aluminium or acrylic laminate memorial plaques.

The wooden caskets are perfect for those wanting to keep the ashes of a loved one, although they are also used when burying ashes in a cemetery. For natural burial grounds our carpenters can create a casket without any metal fittings.

The lids are permanently fixed, and the ashes are placed into the casket from the bottom.

Backing Boards and Blank Wooden Crosses

We offer backing boards in various timbers for mounting your memorial or engraved plaque. For optimal presentation, we recommend ordering a backing board 25mm larger than the plaque in both height and width.

Additionally, we provide maintenance-free Corian backing boards in various colours, including black, slate grey, and mahogany. We also craft wooden crosses in multiple sizes.

Embossed Aluminium Name Plates

These vintage style metal house nameplates and signs are gorgeous. They are made using traditional methods developed over the last 120 years. 
Each plate is hand made and then hand sprayed using stoving enamel. Excellent value and very durable name plates.

Cast Aluminium Plaques & Memorials

We create cast aluminium memorial plaques, commemorative plaques, and informational signs using a blend of traditional craftsmanship and the latest pattern-making technology. This combination allows us to offer a wide range of lettering, motifs, and layouts. Shaped plaques are also a possibility.

Choose from four standard background colours, although we can also use bespoke colours. Fix your plaque with a tree stake, holes, or rear studs. From the pattern-making process to delivery, each plaque receives individual attention from our highly skilled craftsmen, using casting methods that date back to the Bronze Age.

Zinc Plate with Raised Letters

These hand-painted and hand-finished memorial plaques are made from zinc plate, which is strong and tough and does not rust or tarnish. The background is etched away, leaving the lettering, numbers, border, and images raised.

These plaques are ideal for commemorative and memorial purposes due to their durability, longevity, and maintenance-free nature. They can incorporate detailed, full-colour images, including military badges, family coats of arms, national flags, or your own artwork.

These plaques are also for heritage settings with their traditional appearance and being maintenance free.

SandBlasting Service For North Devon & Exmoor Area

Our craftsmen, who have sandblasted signs for many years, were so often asked to blast other items that we decided to add the service to our website. We can blast clean anything, from bike parts to garden chairs and bread oven doors to old tractors!

Builders often bring in new oak beams to sandblast them, adding a bit of age.  We also sand blast timber to create for a driftwood effect. 

We have several mediums depending on the finish required. 

Name Plates for Stable Doors

High quality stable name plates to suit all budgets. We make the horse name plates for stable doors in several materials - three different timbers, engraved brass, acrylic laminate & aluminium, full-colour weatherproof ToughPrint and stone like stone-like corian.

These are available in many fonts and with a good selection of images.

Taxidermy Shields & Award Plaques

As well as wooden signs, our carpenters can make virtually any taxidermy shields or trophy plaques in any of our timbers and to almost any shape and size. We do not use veneer! All the plaques, shields and bases are solid timber, with oak being the most popular. We have created several standard sizes in oak, which are good value. These can be supplied in the natural finish or a darker antique look finish. They can also be left untreated or painted. The 19mm thickness is for indoor use only, whereas the 24mm thickness can be used outside. As an alternative to oak, we also use wide board sapele, which is very stable. It looks similar to mahogany and can be used indoors or outside.

Engraved Brass Memorial Plaque

Brass has a long history of use in crafting memorials, including plaques for graves. Traditionally, brass plaques are engraved with unpainted lettering in a classic script font. However, at The Sign Maker, we offer contemporary options to personalize your memorial. We can modernise your brass plaque with painted lettering and a variety of font choices to suit your preferences.

To enhance your brass memorial plaque, consider adding a wooden backing board. For grave memorials, we also offer the option of an oak memorial cross to which the plaque can be mounted, creating a beautiful and enduring tribute.

Wall Mounted Pub Signs & Hanging Pub Signs

On this page we have our range of fibreglass pub signage. Within this range are a number of excellent pub signs, some being wall mounted and some being double sided and supplied with brackets, ideal for hanging pub signs. The moulded edge enhances the whole appearance and gives it that traditional pub sign look.

Our contemporary rectangular tray signs offer excellent value for business signage. They can also be custom-made in other sizes at comparable costs. Other styles can be tailored to bespoke sizes or shapes. However, please note that the set-up charges for custom shaped orders are approximately £600, making it cost-effective only if you require several signs in that shape.

Projecting Sign Bracket with Sign Panels - Doubled Sided

The scroll brackets are of heavy duty steel construction and are painted black. They are supplied with wall fixings. The panels are made from rigid foamex which is 19mm thick - a very strong yet light weight material. The sign panel is usually supplied white  but can be painted black, grey or green. Alternatively, the panel can be laminated in a single vinyl - click here to see the colour range.

If you have full-colour vinyl applied to both sides but want the panel edges black we can do that too.

The panel can be blank, have vinyl lettering applied or be laminated in full colour digital print to both sides of the sign panel.

Simple Projecting Signs without Bracket

Our simplest projecting signs are crafted from 3mm aluminum plates with a single fold for easy wall attachment. They come in three shapes, each available in two sizes.

By default, these signs are powder-coated white. Alternatively, you can choose to have them laminated with one of our standard vinyl options or with a full-colour print.

Basic Projecting Sign Bracket

This is a well made sign bracket for a simple projecting sign. It is designed to take an aluminium panel. The sign panel can be 500mm - 700mm across and any height you require. The bracket can be supplied with or without the panel. The panel will be rigid - it does not swing.
