If you are looking for a sign to display more than one house or business, then a ladder sign might be the perfect choice for you. While you might have decided this is the correct sign, there is rather a lot of styles to choose from. This blog aims to make that choice even easier, discussing the benefits of each style and helping you to choose the right sign.
Beautiful Timber Ladder Signs
Natural timber signs hold a timeless elegance that oozes quality, so it is not surprising that it is still a very popular choice of sign. While it does require regular maintenance, the results of these beautiful signs is well worth the work. The two most popular timbers for natural wooden ladder signs are Oak or Iroko.
Oak is traditional, it has a beautiful, fairly consistent golden colour and tight grain. It is a very durable timber with the right care. We recommend our satin varnish finish whereby we;
- Anti fungal
- End grain seal
- Base coat Varnish
- 3 Top coats of Varnish
- 1 layer of wood milk
This treatment should help the oak sign last around 1-2 years (depending on weather) but after that should be treated yearly.
Iroko is what we like to call a marmite timber, some people love it, while for others it is not their thing. It is another wonderful hardwood, the colours can vary from a light yellow down to a deep orange and this can occur in just one piece of wood. The wood is a very stable, durable timber that only likes to be oiled. We test with two coats of Devon oil and we recommend that you re-treat a few times a year by simply wiping oil over the sign with a rag.
Timber with a Twist
If you like timber signs but are not a fan of the completely natural look, then a painted wooden ladder sign will be right up your street. These can be made from Sapele or Tricoya which both bond to paint exceptionally well to create a high finish. We paint spray our signs using a hard-wearing 2-pack polyurethane paint. We have a huge range of stock colours to choose from or we can match paints to specific colours.
For both our natural or painted wooden signs you can choose to have the sign front fixed or mortised within the posts. The below photo showcases the difference.
High Quality while Low Maintenance
One of the highest quality ladder signs you can choose is our slate ladder signs. The slate panels are usually made from 12mm or 20 mm-thick slate. Depending on the size of the panel they are either screwed or inset onto timber posts. The wooden posts are either crafted out of Oak or Iroko. Both we require a little maintenance, however Iroko left untreated as a post will simply silver over time. Therefore, a skate ladder with Iroko posts will be the lowest maintenance option.
Another high-quality option that requires no maintenance is our Solid Aluminium ladder signs. These can come in a wide range of sizes, colours and graphic options. The posts can include base plates if bring secured onto solid ground and can have finals for the top of the posts for an extra touch of elegance.
For those on a budget
We understand that when running a business or providing signage for multiple homes, a big budget might just not be available. This is why our T-channel signs are such a great option. While they can’t be beaten on price, they still uphold a high-quality look and feel. The panels are made from aluminium composite which can have either full colour printed vinyl or one/two-colour cut vinyl. The panels are then secured onto wooden posts using T-channels. If you already have exciting post,s then you can simply purchase the panels and fittings and secure them to what you have. If you would need the wooden lists then for natural wooden posts we would recommend the Iroko as they are a little less expensive then the oak. For painted posts we could recommend Sapele which is around the same costing as Iroko. Alternatively, painted soft wood is the best on price but will not last as long as a hardwood post option.
